Spring 2026 | Journey to Asia, Africa, and Europe

JTC 350 Public Relations and Advertising

Overview of Course

Public Relations and Advertising offers a comprehensive exploration of the principles and techniques of advertising and public relations while comparing and contrasting the similarities and differences in advertising and public relations in the digital world. Students will examine theories of persuasion, advertising strategies, and consumer behavior before critiquing and creating effective advertising. Students will also examine reputation management, crisis communication, and media relations before critiquing and creating effective public relations campaigns. Students will develop the knowledge base and skill sets needed to navigate and excel in ethical, culturally-aware advertising and public relations practices.

JTC 350 will transition from theory to application by taking a case study-approach, applying strategic processes as solutions to advertising and public relations scenarios. The case studies that we examine will be global, investigating how nonprofits, organizations, and governments throughout the world have adapted principles and strategies within various communities and cultures.
